Choose a nick name for yourself to start but keep it clean, buy a cheap pay as you go mobile phone just for contacts and get yourself a free email account like Hotmail, if you find yourself being harassed it wont be such a problem to ditch that cheap phone or delete your free email account.

Personal information.

Never divulge any personal information in you online profile also in any emails or initial contact you have with your new friend, take it slow and start with first names only . Never post your Telephone Number and keep your location as vague as possible, a town or better still a county i.e. ( Carmarthenshire) etc will do for starters. Meet in a public place.

On a first meeting, always arrange to meet in a public place. Never meet in private or at home, a hotel or any remote locations. Tell somebody. Make your own way to and from the date, better still if you get a friend or family member to drive you or take a taxi.

Never leave your drinks or personal items unattended.

Keep your drink close to you and never leave it unattended, if you have to leave your drink to go to the bathroom make sure to order a fresh drink on your return. Don't leave you coat wallet or bag unattended, your personal ID could be at risk, keep them close to you at all times. Never be persuaded to take a first date to your home.

Stay in a public well populated place, never be pressured to go somewhere a bit quieter, If you feel you are being pressured politely end your date and phone your friend or a Taxi as soon as possible.

Suggestion: If you used you own vehicle to get to your date and you suspect that you are being followed back ,stop and make for a public place to use the telephone to phone a friend or a taxi cab , you can collect your vehicle later with the safety of a friend or family member.

Remember to follow these tips on every meetings, until you feel confident with your new date. If he or she is genuinely interested in you, he or she will want you to feel safe and will respect your due caution. Use common sense at all times and always trust your instincts.
